| Title:
Sea
Flight. A Fleet Air Arm Pilots Story by Hugh Popham. |
| Description:
This
book is the account of a pilot with the Fleet Air Arm of
the Royal Navy in his adventures during the Second World
War. During his service he was aboard the carriers H.M.S.
Indomitable and Illustrious while operating with 880 and
894 Squadrons. The author took part in some action in the
Far East and was involved in Operation Pedastal
where he took part in some hectic activity. In his account,
the author suffers a number of crashes and loses many of
his friends. Popham is an excellent writer who possesses
dry humour throughout. One of the highlights of the book
is the action in the Mediterranean where H.M.S. Eagle was
sunk. The author spent a lot of his time flying Hurricanes
and early Seafires in the conflict. The book is on the recommended
reading list of the Imperial War Museum, London. |
