Description: The author joined the marines in 1988 and went to war two years later in Iraq. This account tells of the author’s encounters during his 6 months there, where he feels boredom and fear and discovers that man descends into their basest levels. It tells of his training in boot camp, his battles with family and enemy and how he struggled to come to terms with his harrowing experiences.
Author: The author joined the US Marine Corps when he was eighteen years old. Two years later he took part in ‘Operation Desert Shield’ in 1990, where he served with the 7th Marines in a surveillance and target acquisition / sniper platoon. After the war he attended the Iowa Writers Workshop and at the time that this book was written lived in Portland, Oregon.
