| Title:
The
Life and Times of King John by Maurice Ashley. |
| Description:
This
book gives an account of a King who left behind a very bad
reputation. The author looks for the real King John and
tries to separate fact from fiction. It tells of the king
as being a ruthless and unpredictable man with a swift temper,
but who was also a hard working diplomat whose name has
been primarily blackened by the clergy and by the ruthless
magnates who he fought with. He is undoubtedly remembered
for the king who sealed the Magna Carta and
for the final humiliation of losing the Crown Jewels in
the wash, however, this book provides the reader with a
wealth of further information on the subject. |
