The
author was born in New York City in 1912 and in 1933 received
her B.A. degree from Radcliffe College. She reported on
the Spanish Civil War from Madrid in 1937 and later wrote
many books which included the Lost British Policy, Bible
and the Sword, and Notes From China. She received two Pulitzer
Prizes for non-fiction which include this book, The
Guns of August, and also for Stillwell and the
American Experience in China 1911 1945. She
died in 1989 in Connecticut. |
