book tells of the Career of Colonel Charlie Beckwith,
the author who after working with the British SAS and
American green Berets brought about the Delta Force into
being fighting against military bureaucracy as he tried
to bring about the countries only military counter-terrorist
unit. It gives an account of the rescue of the besieged
Special Forces camp at Plei Me in October 1965 which was
surrounded by the Vietnamese army. It goes on to give
an account of the rescue bid for the hostages held in
the American embassy in Tehran, Iran in April 1980 which
ended in disaster.
