| Title:
Francis
Drake by Neville Williams |
|
Description:
Francis
Drake by Neville Williams brings to life this great character
from English history that epitomizes England in the late
sixteenth century. He was a superb leader of men and a
great seaman who was motivated by his religious thinking
and will to plunder. He began with early voyages with
his cousin John Hawkins of Plymouth before heading for
the waters of the Caribbean. After service in Ireland
he went around Cape Horn where he made his fortune attacking
Spanish settlements and shipping. In 1588 in the war against
Spain and its Armada, the main credit for its defeat must
go to Drake whose story is well told by Williams.
