Description:
This
is the authors story of how in 1939 he joined the
Royal Canadian Air Force. It is the story of his wartime
years. It tells of how in 1941 while flying in a Whitley
bomber he crashed into a hillside of the Dales killing
both pilots. It also tells of how in 1942 he found himself
bailing out of his aircraft some 60 miles from Cologne
and how he managed to evade capture for some time helped
by Dutch civilians until he was eventually captured by
the Gestapo. While imprisoned in Stalag Luft III he was
in the company of Douglas Bader and Wings
Day whose escape efforts were legendary.

The author
was born in Montreal in 1917 where he became a journalist
at 19. After the war he published a number of articles.
In 1986 he reported on the International Atomic Energy Agencys
report on Chernobyl. He and his wife live in Scarborough,
Ontario. |
