| Title:
The
Long March on Rome The Forgotten War by Charles Whiting |
|
Description:
This
book tells of the hard fought campaign in Italy during
the invasion of the allied forces. Churchill saw it as
the soft under belly of Europe but the troops soon found
out that it was no easy matter. The unforeseen resistance
of the Germans, the atrocious weather and the preoccupation
of the High Command to place the importance on other theatres
of war all played a part in this grim campaign where the
soldiers believed themselves to be the forgotten army.
This is an action-packed account of the Italian campaign
as seen through the eyes of the ordinary soldier. The
author has interviewed and corresponded with scores of
survivors who tell the story as they saw it.
