| Title:
Rude
Mechanicals by A J Smithers |
|
Description:
The
full title of this book is Rude Mechanicals An
Account of Tank Maturity During the Second World War and
follows the story of the tank in which it was to play
an immensely greater role. But few appreciate how the
tank could have been more effective had the right tank
been placed in the right place at the right time. It was
not just the case of putting the correct tank in the correct
location; firstly it had to be designed. Following the
great success of the First World War, Britain had a virtual
monopoly on tank warfare, by 1939 Britain had slipped
back and Germany and Russia had made huge inroads in development.
This account tells of how it came about and why there
was a failure to produce any tank fit to fight the Germans
after more than five years of war despite all the manufacturing
capacity of the USA.
