| Title:
Fighting
Ships in the Age of Steam by Len Ortzen |
|
Description:
This
is a selection of true stories of famous steam war ships
of their time which began to be introduced in the Crimean
War. The author examines the great advantage that steam
brought to sea battles and also the undreamed horrors
in an era where techniques were becoming increasingly
sophisticated. He describes what went on behind the scenes
in vessels whose names have become famous such as the
Graf Spee, HMS Warspite and the USS Enterprise among others,
and how in spite of some great technical advantages, victory
was often won by sheer daring and courage of the men who
fought and sailed in them.
