| Title:
Bombs
On Target by Ron Mayhill, DFC |
|
Description:
The
author was a bomb aimer on a Lancaster. He was posted
to 75 New Zealand Squadron at Mepal in June 1944 and along
with his crew were flung into the bombing operations in
support of the Normandy landings and also into the desperate
fight to destroy the V1 and V2 sites. Based on his diaries
and accounts written at the time, Ron Mayhills graphic
memoirs record what it was like to be in the nose of a
Lancaster as he recalls the dangers and the exhilaration
to fly both by day and night. It also describes everyday
life on a bomber station, the take-off procedures, bombing
and marking techniques as well as the individual raids,
few of which could be described as routine.
