Dardanelles The Story of HMS E7 by Michael Wilson |
|
Description:
During
1914 the potential of the submarine as a weapon was largely
a matter of conjecture. So when war came it was a fact
that those in authority had no experience and those with
experience had no authority. In this book Michael Wilson
looks at the previously unpublished diaries of Lieutenant
Oswald Hallifax who gives a vivid picture of life for
a submariner from the icy waters of the North Sea to the
warmer climate of the Dardanelles. The book also gives
a wider view of the decisions that had to be made by the
commanders of these vessels and by those that were commanded
and to understand the problems that were created when
the cogs of this essential part of the war machine failed
to synchronise.
