| Title:
Gallipoli by Alan Moorehead |
| Description:
This book is one of the most moving and absorbing books on the subject written. From the first naval assault on the narrows in March 1915 until the evacuation of the troops in January 1916, the campaign was a saga of appalling blunders, missed opportunities, exhaustion and frustration. Yet, crammed into those terrible areas of beach and hill, under permanent shellfire, the most formidable act of courage occurred, not least amongst the ANZACs. The author describes the life each soldier carved out for themselves. He gives the overview and the personal view and at times he makes it almost palatable. |
