| Title:
Goose
Green A Battle Is Fought To BE Won by Mark Adkin |
|
Description:
This
study of the first crucial clash of the Falklands War
is based on eye-witness accounts from the commanders,
British and Argentinean soldiers. It follows in detail
with the aid of some excellent maps the vicious 14 hours
of fighting that took place between the two armies for
the tiny settlement of Goose Green. It shows how 2 Para
came close to failure as they neared exhaustion, lacked
adequate fire support and ammunition as they fought over
open ground in broad daylight against prepared positions.
The author also asks the question Was the battle
necessary? Goose Green was the first and longest
land battle of the conflict, it was also the hardest fought
and most important to win, which hung in the balance for
several hours. This book which is solely devoted to the
battle recounts the battle in detail from both sides of
the war with comments from more than 45 veterans of all
ranks.
