Field Marshall Lord Carver was Chief of the Defence Staff from 1973 to 1976. In WWII he served in North Africa, Italy and North West Europe, finishing in command of an armoured brigade. In a subsequent distinguished career, he was Commander-in-Chief Far East, and Chief of the General Staff. He is the author of a number of other works which include ‘El Alamein’, ‘and Tobruk’. |
